The Greenhouse Cakerie

On Supplier Spotlight this week, we’re featuring Laura from The Greenhouse Cakerie. She makes some seriously gorgeous wedding cakes from her home in Northamptonshire.

Tell us what you sell

Bespoke and contemporary wedding cakes. Wedding favours and sweet treats for dessert tables.

I offer a design consultation to every couple which includes a tasting session of up to 4 flavours from my menu, and a glass of fizz!

Tell us how/why you started your business, and how long you have been running

I launched in November 2018.  I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave with my 2nd child and saw it as an opportunity to take a new direction with my career (formerly an Office Manager for an IFA!) I’ve always loved baking, and more recently found a passion for cake decorating.

What is your favourite part of your job?

I love to create modern wedding cakes, that are simple in style yet still ooze elegance and luxury.

What is it about your job that you love the most?

Meeting so many lovely couples and hearing all of their plans for their dream day – I love to be able to tie all of their ideas in to a cake that is unique to them and their day.

How many people work at your business?

Me, myself and I!

Tell us a bit about your pricing. What is included?

As all of my cakes are bespoke, I can only offer a starting price at the outset.

2 tier iced – from £340

3 tier iced – from £400

4 tier iced – from £450

Naked and semi naked start from £345

Every couple is offered a consultation; this is charged at £25, and is deducted from the final price should they book with me.

How do clients order from you?

After a consultation, every couple is issued a cake order confirmation and booking form and also a sketch of the cake. The booking is made by signing the order form and also making a deposit of £150.

If a consultation is not wanted, clients can order via telephone/email.

Do clients have to pay in full on booking, or do you take a deposit?

For wedding cakes I request a £150 deposit, with balance due 1 month before.

For favours/dessert tables I request a deposit of 50%, and the balance due 1 month before.

Do you deliver the cake to the venue or does the client collect it from you?

My price includes delivery and set up. The client is welcome to collect if preferred, but I do encourage them to take up the delivery option.

Do you have premises that clients can visit/samples they can see?

Yes – at my home, and clients have a tasting session to help them to choose their flavours.

Anything else you want to tell us?

My goal is to create unique and contemporary wedding cakes, that are simple in style without lacking in taste or wow factor!
